Terms of use · effective 4 November 2026
The rules, in plain language.
1. Who we are and what you agree to
Settlor ("we", "us") operates settlor.co.uk. By creating an account, posting a bill or using the payment details shown on a bill, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you do not agree, do not use Settlor.
2. What Settlor is
Settlor is a noticeboard for real bills. People who need help post an invoice; people who want to help pay that invoice directly to the biller. Settlor is not a party to any payment, does not hold, receive, transfer or refund money, does not charge fees and does not take a commission.
We check bills and receipts by hand and in good faith, but we cannot guarantee that every bill is genuine or that every payment will be made. Your decision to pay a bill is yours alone.
3. Accounts
- You must be 18 or older.
- Give a working email address. We use it to tell you when a bill is approved, settled or rejected.
- Keep your password to yourself. Everything done from your account counts as done by you.
- One account per person. We may close duplicate or abusive accounts.
4. Posting a bill
When you post a bill you confirm that:
- the invoice is real, unpaid, and yours, or you have the permission of the person it belongs to;
- the amount, biller and due date match the invoice you upload;
- the payment details you give belong to the biller wherever possible, and you say so clearly if they do not;
- your story is truthful and contains no names or other details that identify you or anyone else;
- you will tell us at once if the bill is paid by other means, so it can be taken down.
We may edit a story for anonymity, ask for more documents, reject a bill with a reason, or remove a live bill at any time. Bills are published anonymously: the public sees your city, country, story, biller and amount, never your name. Signed-in users also see the payment details.
5. Settling a bill
- You pay the biller directly using the details on the bill. Settlor never receives your money.
- Swiping right or pressing "Settle" reserves a bill for you for 24 hours so that two people do not pay the same bill. Release it if you change your mind.
- Upload a receipt after paying. We review it and mark the bill settled once it is confirmed.
- Payments are voluntary gifts between private people. They are not loans, not purchases and not donations to Settlor, and they cannot be refunded through us.
- You are responsible for any tax or reporting consequences of a gift in your own country.
6. Things you must not do
- Post a bill that is fake, already paid, inflated, or not yours to post.
- Give payment details that route money to anyone other than the biller without saying so.
- Contact, pressure or harass another user, or try to find out who posted a bill.
- Scrape, copy or republish bills or payment details outside Settlor.
- Use Settlor for money laundering, fraud, or anything unlawful.
We may suspend accounts, remove content and report fraud to the authorities.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of what you upload. You give us permission to store it, show the anonymised parts publicly, show the documents to our reviewers and to the people who need them to pay, and to quote anonymised bills in Settlor's own channels (for example "a NOK 2,000 power bill in Norway was settled today").
8. Liability
Settlor is provided as it is, free of charge, by a small independent team. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses arising from a bill that turns out to be untrue, a payment that goes astray, a biller's actions, downtime, or anything outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Ending things
You can delete your account at any time from My page, or by writing to us. We can close accounts that break these terms. Bills and documents are removed on the schedule described in the privacy policy.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms; the date at the top tells you when. Material changes are announced on the site. These terms are governed by the laws of Norway, where Settlor is operated, without affecting any consumer rights you have where you live.
11. Contact
Questions, complaints, takedown requests: [email protected].
